ABSTRACT

This research work examines the fiscal policy and economic growth in Nigeria (2000-2016). The information were sourced mainly from secondary sources such as central bank statistical bulletin, journals and magazines, which were subjected to multiple regression as the statistical tool for analaysis. The variables to be used for the model are, government borrowing, government spending, taxation, government budget and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The study reveals that the variables Government Borrowing and Taxation confirm to economic theory and others like government spending and government budget do not confirm to apriori expectation. It is recommended that there should be a continued and sustained re-direction of more government expenditure to productive activities in the country and to providing and creating a conducive and enabling investment environment i.e provision of better infrastructural facilities to compliment local investment which should impact on economic productivity, strict monitoring and supervision should be enforced to ensure compliance by executive of capital projects so that funds meant for such projects are not diverted or mismanaged.
